Our Story

Gateway Arch began in 1985, when founder Katsuhisa Yoshida started a small toy company in Kyoto with a big dream — to bring joy through play that connects people across places, generations, and cultures.

The name “Gateway Arch” was inspired by the iconic American monument symbolizing connection — a reflection of our aspiration to build bridges: from Kansai to Kanto, from Japan to the world.

In our early days, we crafted a variety of toys, from cards and plush figures to art objects. But as our journey evolved, so did our focus — toward jigsaw puzzles as a unique form of Asobi that blends creativity, craftsmanship, and emotion.

From our patented bio-plastic puzzle pieces that click satisfyingly into place, to puzzles featuring playful shapes like sneakers and cats, and even the world’s smallest pieces for ultra-detailed designs — innovation has always been part of our DNA.

Today, we collaborate with artists and creators across disciplines, continuing to reimagine what a puzzle can be.
More than a pastime, we believe puzzles are a way to connect — with others, with yourself, and with beauty. And that belief continues to guide us, piece by piece.

Our Mission, Vision & Values

In 2025, as we celebrated our 40th anniversary, we took the opportunity to reflect on the spirit of our founding. To carry forward the passion of our founder, Katsuhisa Yoshida, we defined our company’s Mission, Vision, and Values — a clear expression of who we are and where we aspire to go. These guiding principles represent our commitment to creating joyful experiences through Asobi, and to connecting people across generations, cultures, and borders — now and into the future.
